Students learn of theatre jobs away from stage
Posted: 29th March 2022Young people interested in the arts have discovered the potential careers open to them away from the stage.
Year 10 music students at Mark Hall Academy took part in workshops to get an insight into non-performance roles available behind the scenes in the arts.
The event at the Barbican Theatre gave students an opportunity to work with industry professionals and gain first-hand knowledge of the career pathways available in the arts and culture sector.
They took part in practical activities while learning about marketing, learning and community projects and production arts, such as theatre technology, costume design and sound design.
Cristin Casey, head of performing arts, said: “Students were amazed to see the opportunities available to them above and beyond performing on stage.
“The trip to the Barbican and Guildhall provided learners with inspiration and motivation to look into careers they didn’t know existed before, from sound and stage design to developing arts-based programmes for cultural organisations.”
