Let them eat cake - away from computer screens
Posted: 15th February 2021Let them eat cake!
What better way to take a break from remote learning than to make a colourful bake?
Year 8 students at Mark Hall Academy were challenged to take part in a bake-off competition.
In a mission to get children away from their computer screens, they were tasked with coming up with a rainbow cake to represent the topic of reggae they are studying in music.
Sophie Knights, drama and music teacher, said: “As a school, we are looking at ways of creating homework that does not involve any screen time. That’s a great thing for the children as it takes them back to old school ways and doesn’t rely on technology.
“With our current class topic being reggae, we knew students could make bright and colourful cakes, while learning new skills and experimenting with baking.
“We have had such a great response. It is wonderful to see their skills brought to life and to see them in a new light, especially in the current situation. We have also had feedback from students saying they have loved this homework as baking is a passion of theirs.”
