Posted: 6th January 2023Inspectors have praised the rapid improvements made at Mark Hall Academy following the first inspection of the school since joining multi academy trust BMAT Education in January 2021.
The school is now rated requires improvement. Previously, the school had been graded inadequate, with the new report acknowledging that since joining BMAT the trust has acted decisively to raise standards in the school. Two areas, the quality of education and leadership and management, have been graded good. Behavior and attitudes has moved up to requires improvement from inadequate with personal development maintaining requires improvement.
The report highlights the work of the SEND team, stating “Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) receive strong support. The calmness of the Orchard, the space set aside for them, supports their well-being. Many parents of pupils with SEND value the clinics and support sessions leaders put on.”
Manjit Hazle, principal of Mark Hall Academy, has thanked the teams within the school and across BMAT:
“The Trust, leaders and staff have worked incredibly hard to raise standards in a short time; our pupils feel safe in school and recognise that the quality of their education is good and has improved considerably.
“We're pleased that Inspectors could see the rapid improvements that have taken place in the quality of education, SEND and safeguarding and praised the ambitious curriculums where pupils achieve well.
“The Inspectors were impressed with the ambition for all pupils to achieve well and we're particularly pleased that pupils with SEND and their parents value the strong support they receive.
“We know this is just the beginning of our journey and that this school can continue to go from strength to strength. Since the inspection, we have already begun to work on our areas of improvement so that we can provide an outstanding school to our pupils and community.”
BMAT CEO, Helena Mills CBE has written to parents and carers commenting:
“I am delighted that the inspection team found many improvements in the school, especially in the quality of education pupils receive including those pupils with special educational needs, our safeguarding procedures and in the leadership of the school. All these areas are now judged to be good.
“Of course, in such a short space of time we haven’t been able to transform all aspects of the school to good yet, but we are on our way.
I would like to assure you that we have already started to take action to strengthen behaviour and personal development as well as making further improvements to the quality of education.”
